The Controversial Practice of Animal Testing E-mail
When I was in college a friend handed me a pamphlet and told me to read it and pass it on. The literature was about animal testing, and it went on and on about what companies still used it, and which ones did not.

I was sad to see many of the companies that did it were companies that make many of the things that I use in my home. I threw out most of the stuff, and then tried to decide what I could use.

Though I can’t say that I am perfect about buying the right stuff, I do know that I try my best to get the right stuff. Animal testing is something that has been around for a long time.

Though I don’t condone it for any reason, I would much rather hear it is being done for medical research. When animal testing is done for things like shampoos and conditioners though, I really can’t stomach it.

Though I understand that a company has to know if something will harm a person when they use it, there has to be another way to go about finding out what is harmful and what is not.

What bothers me the most about animal testing is what would bother most people. There are animals that could have had a long, loving life as a pet, yet they are used to test products for beauty reasons.

Why is it that these animals are seen as something that is used for whatever we think we need to do. I can’t stand the thought of animals suffering from chemicals slathered on their skin, locked away in cages, knowing nothing but pain.

Though not all animal testing is like this, much of it is. I can’t say that animal testing used for medications is any better, but at least that is used to save lives. I still don’t want to think about it though.

I do know that I can deal with frizzy hair if that means that there is less animal testing going on. I had to give up my favorite conditioner thanks to the literature I read, but I have found something that works even better, and it is not tested on animals.

If you really want to boycott companies that use animal testing you can, you just have to take some time of find the right stuff. It’s out there, you just have to find it.
